Wizard Mastery

Most wizards try to learn as many spell as possible. You should fear those that don't need to do that.

This is my third spell casting book read this week. Another set of spells at my disposal. Tracking good this month as well, with eleven books already. However, it's not enough yet, you never know what spells may be needed during the journey.

The competition is fierce. Spell books and manuals are open to everyone, as such enemies can hide any sort of trick, better be prepared. The best way is to learn from master wizards. They went through the journey, they overcame the deep of despair and the test of pain. They are the great spell champions.

Time went by, more books, more spells, and finally it's time for me to embark on the journey. I am ready, I did my best, I have countless spells at my disposal to overcome any challenge. The first few contenders were no match for me. A lot of wizards never took their craft and journey seriously. They are content wandering around, never fulfilling their potential. As such, I stand on another level, they can't cope with me. Few can. After all, my preparation is unmatched, just like my spell arsenal.

As I walk down the forest my spell trap senses an opponent north-east, not far. He just went straight into my spell. Poor wizard, he probably doesn’t even know a proper shielding spell to counter mine. Another easy prey.

As I approach I notice him from a short distance away. He just walks, no alertness spell, no defensive spell, nothing. Those are beginners spells, the very basics. It looks like this will be even easier than I thought, he is no enemy to me.

I challenge him straight with no hesitation. He finally seems to sense my presence, but it's too late now. My spell is already in motion, this will be over in an instant.

An instant goes by, but nothing happens. My spell is gone. What? What happened? Did I miss? I clearly remember this spell from one of the books, I read about it probably twice. No way I missed this.

Suddenly, a quick swing of his right hand. I don't even notice before the breath is taken from me. A force field spell, hitting me straight. My head is spinning, but I manage to counter with my own thunder spell. At the same time, I activate other three trap spells. He cannot escape. Another instant, I just have time to notice his hand swinging left and right, before another force field crushes me on the ground.

None of my spells hit. My opponent casually walks straight to me, stopping a few steps away: "Your spells are weak and sparse. Prepare better the next time." These are the last words I hear before everything goes dark.
